U-100 Insulin Syringe Reference Guide
Standard 1 mL insulin syringes use U-100 markings (100 units = 1 mL). Use this table to calculate your dose.
| Concentration | 100 mcg | 200 mcg | 250 mcg | 500 mcg | 1 mg | 2 mg |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 500 mcg/mL (0.5 mg/mL) | 20u | 40u | 50u | 100u | — | — |
| 1,000 mcg/mL (1 mg/mL) | 10u | 20u | 25u | 50u | 100u | — |
| 2,000 mcg/mL (2 mg/mL) | 5u | 10u | 12.5u | 25u | 50u | 100u |
| 2,500 mcg/mL (2.5 mg/mL) | 4u | 8u | 10u | 20u | 40u | 80u |
| 5,000 mcg/mL (5 mg/mL) | 2u | 4u | 5u | 10u | 20u | 40u |
Injection Sites (SubQ)
All amino acids listed use subcutaneous (SubQ) injection — into the fat layer just beneath the skin, not into muscle (IM).
- 1. Abdomen: 2–3 inches from navel, pinch skin, inject at 45° angle
- 2. Thigh: Outer upper thigh, midway between hip and knee
- 3. Upper arm: Outer aspect, deltoid fat pad
- 4. Rotation: Always rotate sites — do not inject the same spot consecutively
Injection Best Practices
- • Use a new needle for every injection — never reuse
- • Wipe injection site with alcohol swab, allow to fully dry before injecting
- • Pinch a fold of skin, insert needle bevel-up at 45–90°
- • Depress plunger slowly and steadily
- • Hold in place 5–10 seconds, then withdraw at same angle
- • Do NOT rub — apply light pressure with gauze if needed
- • Dispose of used needles in a sharps container
